Being a Trustee & Current Vacancies: December 2019

Support Network is governed by a Trustee Board of up to 13 people, who oversee the governance and strategic direction of the organisation. The Board is quite diverse, and has Trustees from both within the IMechE membership and from non-engineering backgrounds.

As we move towards expanding our services and develop a Foundation aspect of our grant giving, it is an exciting time to join us in this capacity.

We have two immediate vacancies: for a Treasurer and for a Foundation Giving Trustee, and please click as appropriate for further details. An additional vacancy will arise with effect from July 2020 when a current post holder needs to retire from the Board due to having completed their term of office.

Elected trustees serve for an initial period of three years, after which they can stand to be re-elected for a further period of three years before taking a break of at least one year, unless they hold the office of Chair or one of the two Deputy Chair roles, when an extension of a year is possible. Some Trustees are also volunteer visitors for Support Network, whilst others bring specific strategic skills. 

We hold four Trustee Board meetings a year, all usually at Birdcage Walk, and held during the day. Full expenses are paid for these. Trustees might also be involved with either sub-committee   work and/or remote grant making processes.
