Joseph Whitworth Award

The Joseph Whitworth Award  (serial 301) is funded from the Trust for education and research purposes.

Trust conditions

The Carl Louis Breen Trust was founded in 1945 with a donation of £700.

For encouraging research in engineering by endorsing the Joseph Whitworth Prize for the best paper on industrial administration or engineering production.

For the grant of scholarships and the annual award of a medal.

Award conditions

To be awarded every year along with the Thatcher Bros (serial 223) or the A M Strickland Prize (serial 239) for the best paper published by the Institution on the subject of industrial administration or engineering production.

  • Deadline for nominations: 20 April 2020
  • Review of nominations and award proposal: 20 April 2020
  • Submission of proposed award to Awards Committee: May 2020
  • Decision of Awards Committee and Trustee Board: June 2020
  • Notify winner: 20 July 2020
  • Presentation of prize: TBC.

Nominations

Nominations should be returned to ge@imeche.orgby 10 April 2020.

Nominations for the prize award must be made by a third party. Self-nominations will not be accepted. Nominations are not restricted to members of the Institution. The individual or group being nominated must not be informed that they are being considered until a decision has been made and ratified by the Institution.

Judging

Judging of nominations and selection of the successful candidate will be carried out by a Judging Committee drawn from the members of the Manufacturing Division. The recommendation of the Judging Committee will be subject to ratification by the Board.
